My role on Drop Dead Gorgeous was mainly design and code. I was responsible for delivering on the core promise of making the player feel like they were a true detective, while also making a game that was fun to play. To this end I designed a conversation system that asked the player to decide what the right question to ask was, rather than the game giving the player the option. This system is designed this way to encourage deduction, and constant observation, making the player follow the actions that a detective might when investigating a mystery.

Process Work

Created an Excel spreadsheet that takes the critical path of the story and plots out a heat map of the players travel over the course of the game (if played perfectly)

This is the travel matrix that the sheet uses to plot out the path of the player.

This part of the sheet looks at the players previous navigation, and calculates how repetitive their current path is, telling the designer if the player is going back and forth too much. The designer can also look for specific navigational paths to see how many times the player travels it.
